Greek Circle Iron Chef Challenge!

by: Rose Figliomeni Khan – Greek Circle Community Advocate

On January 30th, the Center for Residence, the Greek Circle House Managers, and the Center for Campus Life hosted "Iron Chef Greek Circle - Battle Chocolate!"

Borrowing the concept from the popular television series hosted on the Food Network, 20 residents of Greek Circle battled in a culinary competition.  These randomly assigned teams were comprised of students from all six of the Greek organization housed in Greek Circle, many of which had never met before.  They were given less than one week to plan and execute a three-course meal with the secret ingredient of chocolate.  They planned, shopped, and prepared while navigating their already busy schedules.

On a Friday night, five kitchens were alive with the creation of amazing culinary treats.  The dishes included chocolate pumpkin ravioli, ribs with a cocoa rub, steak with a savory chocolate sauce, deep fried bananas, dessert pizza, chicken with chocolate barbeque sauce, homemade sweet potato chips, palm hearts with a delicate fruit topping and so many more tantalizing dishes!

The competitors finished their culinary masterpieces and madly dashed to Delta Phi Epsilon to set their meals before the judges and a hungry waiting crowd of close to 50 people.  The center island was covered with a beautiful spread of elegantly plated dishes.  These RIT students really stretched their creativity and ingenuity!

The meals were judged by staff members from the Centers for Residence Life and Campus Life. Winners were given the coveted "Golden Spatula" award and were bestowed the title of Greek Circle Iron Chefs.
