by: Carla DiLella - Housing Operations, Associate Director

Apply For Summer Quarter Housing

If you will be on campus for summer quarter and you will need RIT housing, please apply for summer housing April 1st – May 15th. Paper contracts are available at Housing Operations in Grace Watson Hall, or a pdf can be printed by visiting myhousing.rit.edu or housing.rit.edu.  You may fax your pdf to Housing at 585-475-5050, you can scan and email it back to us at raaapt@rit.edu, or you can mail it to us at Housing Operations, 63 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester, NY 14623.

End of the year

The end of the academic year is quickly approaching and things are only going to get busier for you as the quarter progresses. Your housing contract ends on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10:00 am unless you are graduating. If you are graduating, your contract ends on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at noon. If you applied for summer housing, you may remain in your current assignment until Sunday, May 22, 2011. You must plan your departure from RIT based on these dates. The following is a check list to keep you on track for the end of the year.

❏ Please make transportation arrangements that coincide with your move out date and time as stated above.

❏ Make arrangements for off-campus storage. Storage is not allowed in RIT housing. You may not leave belongings with a roommate or a friend who may be staying in RIT housing for the summer to use, store, or watch over. All belongings must be taken off campus. Three very popular storage companies in the area are Simply Storage, www.isimplystorage.com, U-Haul U-Box, www.uhaul.com/ubox, and Uncle Bob’s Storage, www.unclebobs.com.

❏ Resolve who is responsible for paying for any damage in your apartment/suite/room. Contact Housing Operations to get an assessment of the damage and to identify who should be charged for it. Unresolved damages will be billed equally to all students on contract for spring quarter. You may submit maintenance requests online at myhousing.rit.edu as we approach the end of the year, however based on what is requested, the work may not be done until the end of spring quarter. Submitting a request does not negate your responsibility if repairs were a result of negligence and/or misconduct.

❏ Make arrangements with Time Warner to return your cable box, if applicable.

❏ Remove all trash and unwanted items, remove all food from the refrigerator and cabinets, vacuum, and wipe down shelves. Return apartment/suite/room to move-in condition. Forty-foot dumpsters will be available in each apartment/suite complex to dispose of large items.

❏Return your mailbox keys.

Colony, Perkins, and Racquet Club residents: Place your mailbox key in your key return envelope with your apartment/suite/room key (see below). Keys can be returned to Housing Operations in Grace Watson Hall 24/7 using the drop box next to the door.

Global Village, University Commons, and Greek Free Standing (Greek Circle) residents: Return your mailbox key to the Global Village Post Office.

❏ Complete a forwarding address card available online at http://finweb.rit.edu/hub/postoffice/apps2/addressforwardform/user/index.cfm.  Be sure to use your middle name or initial on your forwarding address card.

Complete a key return envelope before leaving. Place your apartment/suite/room keys in the envelope and return it to Housing Operations located in Grace Watson Hall. Keys can be returned 24/7 using the drop box next to the door. You must return your keys, even if you are assigned to your current apartment/suite for the 2011-2012 academic year.

❏ Failure to return your keys by your scheduled move-out date will result in you being automatically charged for summer quarter rent in addition to a $85 charge for a lock change. Keys mailed back after the scheduled move out day will not result in the reversal of the lock change or charge.
