Things To Do In Rochester This Summer

Yes! There are things to do in Rochester this summer!

Are you planning on staying in Rochester this summer? Some of you are probably even staying in an RIT apartment this summer. Did you know there many fun things to do in and around Rochester? Did you know there are still resources and services available to you on campus?

Rochester is often known as the city of festivals. Our very own Imagine RIT is considered the kick off for the Rochester festival season and will take place this year on Saturday, May 7th. You can purchase lilac perfume at the Lilac Festival in Highland Park from May 13th to the 22nd. Love arts and crafts? Then the Corn Hill Arts Festival (July 9th and 10th) or the Park Avenue Festival (August 6th and 7th) is perfect for you! Is live music more your thing? Try out the Rochester International Jazz Festival (June 10th – 18th) or the Big Rib BBQ and Blues Festival (July 14th – 17th) which combines great tunes with fantastic food!

Rochester also hosts quite a few regular activities throughout the summer. Every Thursday you can catch live music at the Party in the Park (June 16th – August 18th) in downtown Rochester. Like movies? Check out the Free Movies in the Park at either Highland Park or the Ontario Beach Park. Are you looking for 21 and over fun? Try the East End Festival (various dates) which features live music or Zoo Brew (various dates) which also features live music while hanging with animals!

These are just a sample of the great events and activities happening all summer long! For more information on these events and other festivals, please see the links below.

If you will be on campus this summer, the Residence Life Apartment Area offices (113 Riverknoll and 1 Colony Manor) will be open every weekday (excluding Memorial Day and Fourth of July).  Check the Residence Life website and Apartment Area Virtual Bulletin Board for specific hours in each location.  Along with our professional staff, we will have two Community Advocates who will be a resource to you for any questions or concerns you may have. They will also be coordinating fun programs and trip so keep an eye out for them! One thing to keep in mind is that the same policies and terms and conditions of Housing that are in effect during the year, still apply during the summer.
