Health Education
Health promotion and disease prevention are integral
parts of a sound, complete health care delivery system. The Student
Health Center incorporates a comprehensive health education program
into its care for students. Although coordinated by the Health
Education staff, health promotion activities are sponsored by
the entire professional and student (PIERS) staff of the Student
Health Center.
The health education and clinical staff members
of the Student Health Center are available for:
- Formal and informal classes
- Confidential individual counseling for personal assistance
- Special presentations for academic classes or campus
residences
- Health information
The Student Health Center staff offers health education
programming in the following areas:
Alcohol and Other Drugs
Contraception
Eating Disorders
Nutrition
Sexual Assault
Sexually Transmitted Infection
Smoking Cessation
Stress Reduction
Supplements
Customized Health Education Presentations are available
upon request.

Health Education outreach is facilitated by two
important components of the SHC Health Education program.
- PIERS Program – Peer health
educators
- Student Outreach Program –
SHC staff share health information with students in their residential
environment.
The Student Health Center also presents and promotes
campus wide health related events throughout the academic year.
