The
Women's Studies Program at RIT
The
Women's Studies curriculum is an interdisciplinary, multicultural
series of courses that provides a critical framework to explore
the significance of gender (along with race, sexuality, and
class) in the construction of knowledge within academic disciplines
and in the shaping of women's and men's lives. Women's Studies
courses engage a critical pedagogy focused on the recovery
of women's contributions in a variety of fields, on women's
and men's roles in society across cultures, and especially,
on critical questions about gender neutrality in the shaping
of culture.
The
Society of Women Engineers at RIT (SWE)
The
mission of SWE is to stimulate women to achieve full potential
in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the
engineering profession as a positive force in improving the
quality of life, demonstrate the value of diversity.
SWE
accomplishes this by providing opportunities for women to
attain, enhance, and demonstrate leadership, professional,
and technical excellence that results in career aspiration,
advancement, achievement, and satisfaction.
SWE shares its acquired knowledge and promotes programs that
bridge the gaps in recruitment, professional development,
and retention of women in engineering. As well, SWE
works to inspire girls and women from diverse backgrounds
and life stages to aspire to engineering for meaningful and
rewarding careers.
Women
in Engineering at RIT (WE@RIT)
WE@RIT
establishes active outreach programs for middle and high school
young women, creates and sustains a mentoring program for
RIT first and second year women engineering students, provides
leadership opportunities for all women engineering students,
and supports an environment that allows women to succeed in
an engineering program.

Feminist,
activist foundation
Third
Wave is a feminist, activist foundation that works nationally
to support young women and transgender youth ages 15 to 30.
Through strategic grantmaking, leadership development, and
philanthropic advocacy, we support groups and individuals
working towards gender, racial, economic, and social justice.
Third Wave is led by a board of young women, men, and transgender
activists striving to combat inequalities that we ourselves
face as a result of our age, gender, race, sexual orientation,
economic status, or level of education. By empowering young
women and transgender youth nationwide, Third Wave is building
a lasting foundation for young women's activism around the
country.
