There are a number of people who do not understand the joy of running and it's not for everyone. Coming from a small town, there was only a number of people who liked to run, beyond just to stay in shape. Originally, I just joined track in middle school to get fit for Varsity Soccer. I didn't expect then to fall in love with running and starting as a mid-distance runner, I worked my way up into higher distances.
It is such a satisfying feeling to finish a run and while at times excruciating, a run can sometimes be a personal escape. My school was small enough to not have a cross country team, but my coach, Gabby Pedersen, encouraged and supported me to run in college. This was one of the best things I could have done because, while running is a personal sport, the Women's Cross Country team at RIT is a family. Running with other who have a passion just as strong is one of the most motivating things imaginable. I am honored to be running the Tiger Trail as a first year student with such an incredible group of ladies. This relay run will be such an accomplishment and statement for women's running which I am proud to be a part of.
