Laura Cummings
Television’s loss is your gain.
Laura Cummings got her first taste of professional communications on a sixth-grade trip to New York City, when she was picked to sit in Jane Pauley’s “Today” anchor seat during a tour of the NBC studios. Before that fateful moment, Laura had her sights set on becoming a veterinarian. After the mock broadcast, however, she found herself captivated by the process of getting and disseminating information. It seemed as if a TV reporter had been born.
Alas, after an internship with a couple of ABC affiliates, Laura decided broadcast journalism was not for her. Instead, she turned full-force to print communications, securing gigs in advertising, public relations and development before coming to RIT in 2004.
In her current position, Laura takes the writing and editing lead on a number of projects. Her biggest and most demanding responsibility is producing those quintessential composites of university life, the graduate and undergraduate bulletins.
When not churning out superlative copy, Laura expresses herself creatively through scrapbooking and concocting luscious, almost decadent desserts. (Her fantasy career would be pastry chef.) Oh, and she still maintains a love affair with television—only this time she's on the other side of the screen, watching.
