The Reading and Writing Department offers assessment and instruction in college reading and writing. Several instructors are proficient in ASL sign language for the convenience of cross-registered deaf students.
Writing Lab
Professional writing instructors work with students at every stage of the writing process to improve organization, content, and mechanics. Students come to the lab to seek help writing papers, research projects or resumes/cover letters; however, instructors will not provide assistance on final exams. Writing instructors will read up to five pages of a Master’s thesis for structural and mechanical errors. During any hour the Writing Lab is open, students may ask to take a short diagnostic test to assess their grammar skills. A lab instructor will evaluate the students' answers and offer recommendations for instruction. In addition, a computer is available for students working with an ASC writing instructor. The Writing Lab is located in Eastman Building 01-2358 on a drop-in basis; no appointments or referrals are necessary.
