Civil Engineering Technology - Career Opportunities
Cooperative Education at RIT
Cooperative education is the core of many RIT programs. Co-op allows you to integrate your classroom study with practical work experience by alternating periods of study with periods of actual employment related to your career field.
Benefits
Besides the obvious benefit of actual experience in your field, you're able to develop real-word skills, such as interpersonal relation skills, through co-op. You're able to explore new jobs and even new geographic locations. And you can use your co-op earnings to help finance your education.
Employment
Co-op students are employed in a variety of job settings. Engineering technology students become engineering technicians, assistants, trainees, and more. Geographic assignments span the country. Approximately one-third of co-ops are in Rochester, one-third in the rest of New York State, and another third in places like, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, California, and the District of Columbia.
Placement
You'll be assisted in finding co-op employment by RIT's Office of Cooperative Education and Placement. Through a co-op preparation course and with the assistance of a placement counselor, you'll receive help in resume writing, on- and off-campus interviews, and interview techniques.
