Lightning imageRochester Institute of Technology’s Certificate in Disaster and Emergency Management prepares you for the worst disasters. This short-term certificate provides aspiring emergency professionals and those in government and industry—police officers, fire fighters, emergency medical service workers, industrial safety workers—with the skills to respond effectively when disaster strikes. You will learn to analyze disaster threats, write emergency plans to meet state and federal guidelines, understand problems facing response teams, and communicate knowledgeably with expert advisors in a crisis. And you don’t even have to come to campus! Courses are now available nationwide, delivered through distance-learning technologies!

 

Disaster & Emergency Management Certificate

 

The mission of the Disaster & Emergency Management certificate program is to offer an academically challenging program that provides governmental and industrial emergency planners and emergency professionals with the skills to respond effectively when disaster strikes.

 

Program Educational Objectives:

 

Graduates will:

  1. Attain increasing levels of responsibility in their field of emergency planning or emergency response.
  2. Understand the nature of various disaster situations and how to manage the emergency successfully.
  3. Be able to pursue additional certification or registration in the field.

Beyond Basic Training

HurricaneMost emergency professionals are trained in the procedures for successfully managing the typical emergencies of their professions, such as a house fire, bank robbery, or highway accident. But preparation for responding to major emergencies, such as toxic chemical spills, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and radiation accidents, is often limited to a minimal overview. RIT’s Certificate in Disaster and Emergency Management rounds out your basic training to give you a true understanding of the nature of various disaster situations and how to manage the emergency successfully.

Earn a BS in Applied Arts and Science in Disaster and Emergency Management!

Earthquake damageComprehensive disaster management is a complex field that requires expertise in multiple areas. Through RIT’s flexible Applied Arts & Science degree program you can gain the broad expertise you need—with a specially designed AAS or BS degree that includes one to three other areas which complement your major concentration in Disaster and

Emergency Management. Such areas include (but are not limited to): Information Technology (Telecommunications & Applied Computing), Quality Management, Environmental Management, Business Management, Health Systems Administration, Technical Communication—all are available through distance learning from RIT! Previous credits earned from a regionally accredited college may be counted toward your degree.
