  FAQ's

Q: I used to have to login to Job Zone last year – what is different?
A: We were able to add many features on our main student page. By using your RIT computer account, you now login to the Student main page (or Alumni main page) and all the important Job Zone links now appear directly on that page.

Q: I just created a profile and submitted it but I still cannot use the Job Zone links.
A: There is a time delay between the time you submit your profile and access to Job Zone links. You will have access after 6am the following day.

Q: How does “Co-op Jobs – Quick Search” work?
A: The search uses two criteria (1) your major (2) co-op. Based on that you receive all results that match – listings as well as on-campus interviews. (The titles on the search page lets you know the quarter the co-op begins). If you want to get results based on more criteria selections, use the “Advanced Search” link.

Q: How does “Full-time Jobs – Quick Search” work?
A: The search uses two criteria (1) your major (2) full-time. Based on that you receive all results that match – listings as well as on-campus interviews. If you want to get results based on more criteria selections (i.e.: by state), use the “Advanced Search” link.

Q: The system did not save any of my registration/profile information I completed.
A: You may not have clicked the "Click here to complete your profile". If you don't click this button it will not save any of the data you filled in during the registration process!

Q: I am not seeing jobs that my friends are seeing when they use the “Advanced Search”
A: Heads up on Work Type! You will get zero results if you select items from Box One and Box Two because no jobs are listed with criteria from both of those areas – you must select criteria only in one box at a time per search. Also, do not select the paid box next to co-op. (There is text on the JZ screen alerting you about how these selections work.) Keep in mind that the more selections you make the narrower your results will be.

Q: What is a Multi-school Listing?
A: You will see three different types of jobs in RIT Job Zone: Multi-school Job Listings, Job Listings for RIT Students/Alumni and On-campus Interviews. The Multi-school listings come from a network of employers that are posting their jobs to a number of campuses that also use Job Zone. Some of these participating employers include: Abbott Laboratories, Eastman Kodak, IBM and Unisys, to name a few.

Q: I can't sign up for an interview. What do I do?
A: The job may have gone offline or, you may have missed the deadline to sign up or your qualifications do not match the requirements of the job.

Q. How do I sign up for a Resume Book?
A. If you match the requirements for the resume book, here are the steps to get your resume included into a Resume Book:

Steps:
Login to our main student or alumni page and under the Job Zone heading:
1. Use the Manage Documents link to upload the latest version of your resume.
2. Click on the “Resume Books” link (which takes you to a Resources page). Click on the “Sign Up For Resume Books” link (this will take you to the Resume Books page)
3. On the Resume Books page, roll over the name of the resume book you wish to be added to, select Submit Documents link from the drop down menu.(This will take you to the Document for Resume Book page)
4. On the Document for Resume book page, make sure the radio button is selected next to your resume, then rollover the Menu Options
( ) icon, select Submit Document
.

Q. The the link in the e-mail sent by my Search Agent doesn't work.
A. Agent e-mails are time-sensitive ( recent match), you need to read it within 24hours. Your agent does keep all "matches" so if you don't get to that e-mail right away just go to your "Search Using Agents" page and select "View All Results"

Q: My search agent returns results that don't make sense.
A: It could be a couple of things. You may have selected both co-op and full-time under Work Type or have made so many selections that you have inadvertently narrowed your search too much. You always want to conduct a separate search for full-time and a separate search for co-op. And usually, the less you narrow your search the better.

Q: What does "Job Going offline on ..." mean? Does that mean that the employer is no longer accepting applications, and that I shouldn't bother applying?
A: That is the date in which the deadline to send resumes would have passed.

Q: How do I put my transcript on the Job Zone Site?
A: You are not able to upload an official copy of your transcript, but you can provide a copy of your classes and grades. Start by logging into RIT Information Center at http://www.rit.edu/~webtools/infocenter., and select SIS. After providing passwords, click on the "Miscellaneous" tab to get the academic advising grade list. Currently, this is the best way to capture your academic record for employers from SIS. Select the page, copy then paste into a Word document. You should delete the text at the very top, but keep the rest. Now you are ready to go to Job Zone's Manage Your Documents link on the student main page, click on Store Documents and upload that Word document with your the grades into the system.

Q: How do I view the companies that I've sent my resume/cover letter to?
A: If you have applied to a job through RIT Job Zone, go to View Application History off of the main student page.

Q: How do I check to see if I got an interview?
A: There is a link under Job Zone called “Check Interview Preselections” that tracks which interviews employers have selected you for.
