Pre-service
Education
- I
am teaching a methods course specifically to "Deaf Education"
majors who will likely end up teaching math and science. How can
I best use the information in the COMETS website to prepare my
students?
Much of the information on this website has been developed from
20 years of teaching a methods course to prepare teachers for
effective instruction of deaf students in science and math.
- We especially
recommend that you look at the series of "workshops"
on active learning, writing-to-learn, reading-to-learn, and
many other topics.
- These
workshops may be used as individual class sessions with pre-readings
and activities which reinforce critical emphases.
- Much of
the information is based on findings from educational research.
- Browse
through the COMETS website to find other information to help
you with your course.
- See the
teaching tips and other sections for K-12 teachers.
- A comprehensive
bibliography is available with many excellent readings.
- See also
the Frequently
Asked Questions for K-12 Teachers.
- I
am teaching a general methods course in
science/mathematics education but I would like to give my students
some lessons so that they would be sensitive to the needs of deaf
learners. Do you have any suggestions for how to use the COMETS
website materials for such a course as I am teaching?
- For general
reading, we recommend:

University Press.

Students: Content, Strategies, and Curriculum 1st ed. Allyn
