Workshop Description and Goals

Attend the five-day DigPhoto (DIGitalPHOTOgraphy) workshop, August 4-8, 2008 at a cost of $500, at NTID/RIT in Rochester, NY. The workshop will be held daily from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The cost of the workshop includes the purchase of the software used in the workshop.

 

This workshop promises to be a fun-filled week. Participants will learn the basics of digital cameras and how to take, store, and share good pictures. Participants can bring their own digital camera or borrow one from NTID for use during the workshop.

Intro to Digital Cameras

  • Camera features and options
  • Basic camera setup and shooting techniques
  • Picture storage, pixels, and transfer options
  • Optical and digital zoom
  • Resolution
  • Camera options and menus

DigPhoto Shooting Field Trip

 

Managing Digital Photos

  • Organization
  • Name, edit, sort, catalog, and archive images to CD’s/DVD’s
  • Red-eye removal and other photo improvements

Sharing Photos

  • Email images
  • Slide shows and web photo galleries
  • Prints
  • Image manipulation and editing techniques

Putting it all together

  • Large format printing
  • Registering a personal domain and on-line web space with
  • IPowerWeb
  • On-line print services

Prerequisites

 

The DigPhoto workshop is designed for individuals who have little or no experience using digital cameras. This workshop will be taught in an Apple Macintosh environment and participants should have basic computer skills. Participants are encouraged to bring their own digital cameras and laptops.

 

NOTE:

 

You are encouraged to take this workshop prior to taking the “Introduction to Adobe Photoshop CS3” workshop.

Tom Policano - Workshop Leader

Tom Policano is an Associate Professor in the Arts and Imaging Studies department and has taught at NTID for 31 years. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester, an MFA in Photography from the Visual Studies Workshop, SUNY Buffalo and a Certificate in Cross-Disciplinary Professional Studies from RIT. Tom is a Adobe Photoshop CS2 ACE (Adobe Certified Expert), an image maker, and does freelance photography and consulting. He has a sustained interest in using media to help people communicate.
