Ellen Koskoff is Professor of Ethnomusicology at the Eastman School of Music/University of Rochester, where she teaches ethnomusicology and directs the two Eastman School Balinese gamelans. She has published widely on Jewish music, on gender issues in music, and on music and cognition. She is the editor of Women and Music in Cross-Cultural Perspective (1987), Music Cultures in the United States (2005), and the author of Music in Lubavitcher Life (2000), winner of the 2002 ASCAP Deems-Taylor award. She is a contributor to the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the general editor of Volume 3 of the Garland Encyclopedia of World Music, "The United States and Canada," and is a past President of the Society for Ethnomusicology.
