Title: Welcome and ITC Overview

Description:

The background and goals of the NTID Instructional Technology Consortium will be described. ITC facilitators will be introduced as well as technical resource teams. The week schedule will be reviewed and questions will be answered.

Coffee will be available in 60-2225 from 8:00AM, the session will start promptly at 8:30AM.

Strand: General Session #2
Title: Development of "Trends in Communication Technology"
Day/Time/Location: Thursday/1-2PM/60-2225

Description:

This session will discuss the course development process for the "Trends in Communication Technology" Communication Stuidies course. Particular emphasis will be given to the instructional design process and the use of Web-based materials, visual presentation software and "smart classroom" technology for instructional purposes.

Strand: General Session #3
Title: Facilities at NTID and RIT
Day/Time/Location: Friday/11-Noon/60-2225

Description:

During this session, the utilization of new "smart classroom" technology will be described. Participants will have the opportunity to see demonstrations of various presentation systems available in the NTID smart classrooms, see a tour of the presentation equipment available from media services in the LBJ & Carey buildings, and see an overview of similar services available from our AV dept counterpart, ETC. The session will conclude with an overview of what is planned for future smart classrooms at NTID.

Strand: General Session #4
Title: Adapting New Technology to Enhance Proven Pedigogical Practices

Description:

Description: This interactive session will engage participants in a dialogue that focuses on the identification and adaptation of new educational technology that builds upon sound existing teaching practices and further enhances the learning environment. Facilitators will share personal experiences and describe perceived differences in learning that now occurs in the new CAS science teaching/laboratories due to the recent design of the teaching environment and due to changes in how student learning is structured. Although a primary focus will be on cognitive hierarchy and student thinking skill development using technology, the following areas will also be addressed:

o History of development of teaching/learning labs
o Philosophy
o Student motivation
o Learning styles and differences/disabilities
o Transfer of learning to other courses
o Affective changes
o Socialization changes
o Evaluating learning outcomes in the tech environment

Title: Wallace Memorial Library

Description:

An overview of the services of the Wallace Memorial Library will be presented. Explore teaching and learning strategies using electronic databases and online library services. Also, learn the secrets behind the library's electronic reserve service.

Title: ITC & CRTL Issues; Evaluation, Ongoing Skill Development, Action Research
Day/Time/Location: Tuesday/11-Noon/60-2225

Description:

This session will be devoted to providing participants with information related to the types of support faculty can expect from the ITC and CRTL as they progress with their ITC projects. Additionally, ideas on conducting "action research" related to their projects will be discussed.

Strand: General Session #7
Title: Laptop Computers and Future ITC Opportunities
Day/Time/Location: Wednesday/2-3:30pm/60-2225
Facilitator(s): Reid Blondell, Steve Campbell, Bill Clymer

Description:

During this session, participants will learn about the features and possible instructional applications of the two laptop models that will be made available to successful ITC participants.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to "order" their laptop for delivery ASAP.
