Title: RIT Distance Learning: The Big Picture & First Class @ RIT

Description:

This is an introduction to distance learning in general, as well as the history of DL here at RIT. Topics will include: history, collaboration among students and instructor, assessing students, and research on DL.

This session also includes an introduction to First Class and its use on the RIT Campus.

Title: ICQ Chat Software

Description:

ICQ is an Internet chat program that can be downloaded from the Web free of charge. This software lets users carry on real-time text conversations with others who are on- line. This session will discuss ICQ and faculty will have the opportunity to download and evaluate the software.

Title: Introduction to videoconferencing: CU-SeeMe and VisionLink

Description:

This session will provide faculty with an introduction to videoconferencing basics including hardware, software and netiquette, as well as supporting materials such as newsgroups, mailing lists (listservs), and FTP sites for videoconferencing software. Two systems will be demonstrated during this session. They are CU-SeeMe Video Chat software and the VisionLink videoconferencing system.

Title: Introduction to V-Tel: technical and logistical considerations

This session will introduce faculty to the V-Tel videoconferencing system located in the NLC. A technical orientation will be provided and logistical considerations for using the NLC's V-Tel system will be discussed.

During this demonstration session, Chris will present the project she has been working on (and will be working on during the upcoming spring quarter). Participants are already familiar with First Class, and this project was created with that software. Opportunities will be presented to assess the effectiveness of the course organization as well as discuss the "lessons learned" during the development of this project.
