May and June ITC Studios |
The Instructional Technology Consortium (ITC)
is pleased to announce the ITC Studio schedule for this Spring and Summer.
We will be offering several content strands during May and June 2000.
See the table at the end of this memo for the exact dates.
Some important information related to the
May and June ITC Studios:
- As in the past, emphasis during the ITC Studios will be placed on
using instructional technology solutions for teaching and learning projects.
Expect examples and discussions to focus on instructional solutions,
presentations, and evaluation of effectiveness.
- Participants will be asked to submit a brief proposal that outlines
their instructional project (relating directly to educational interactions
with students), along with an evaluation plan to assess the impact of
the project on student learning
- ITC Studios will be open to all faculty, as well as to staff members
with teaching/educational responsibilities. Staff members are advised
that their projects should reflect their teaching educational/responsibilities
with students.
- Graduates of past ITCs as well as those who have not yet attended
an ITC Studio are welcome to submit a proposal to attend ITC; however,
priority will be given to those individuals who have not attended a
studio.
- Space permitting, ITC Studio groups will be comprised of "first-timers"
and "ITC grads."
- The format of the ITC will be to provide participants with demonstrations
of software applications and the opportunity to work on their individual
Projects. As in the past, the majority of time spent during the week
will be devoted to individual work on Projects. Individuals from CRTL
with instructional technology expertise will be available to provide
consultation and support during the "studio" time.
- The ITC Studios will run from 9am to 3pm each day of the week. Participants
are expected to attend for the complete week.
- Morning coffee, as well as lunch and coffee break at the Grind will
be provided.
- For this and any future Studios, laptops will no longer be assigned
as inventoried equipment to participants at the conclusion of each Studio.
- There is one ITC Proposal form on the Web for ITC Studios. Select
the strand and week(s) that are best for you. Your flexibiliy in which
week you can attend is appreciated. We will try to give you your first
choice.
- ITC may have to cancel a studio strand
if enrollment is not sufficient or if human or other resources are not
available.
- In an effort to provide accessibility to all faculty and staff, the
ITC has decided to offer a visual strand in ASL only. This ASL strand
will occur during the May 22-26, 2000. No interpreters will be provided;
it will be assumed that participants can communicate comfortably in
sign language. As with other ITC Studios, the mornings will be devoted
to small group presentations and discussions, while the afternoons will
be used for individual project work. Participants in this strand will
also be expected to attend all other general sessions of the ITC Studios.
- The deadline
for submitting a proposal for the May and June Studios is one week for
the Studio for which you are applying. However, it will make planning
much easier, if proposals are submitted before May 12, 2000.
Participants will be expected to attend all five,
full days, of the Studio. We ask each participant to carefully consider
their own schedule and determine if they will be able to attend all sessions.
Keep in mind when preparing an ITC Proposal:
-
The Studios will consist of four strands, the World Wide Web, Visual
Presentation, Rapid Development Tools for Building Web Courses, and
Blackboard. Read the ITC Studio Proposal Instructions for more information
on each strand. There will also be one or two members from CTS (selected
by CTS) attending a special strand hosted by CRTL's ITV Department.
The members of this strand will attend all general ITC meetings, etc.
-
You will recall that there are several key elements of a proposal
considered by the ITC Committee. Each proposal must indicate previous
training or relevant experience in the selected strand area. Project
proposals should reflect a departmental and/or student priority. You
will also need to inform your chairperson of your proposal.
-
Check the specific requirements for the Rapid Development
Tools for Building Web Courses, facilitated by Simon Ting.
-
You must propose a project and evaluation plan in order to be accepted
to ITC Studios. If you would like assistance with your proposal,
either for this Spring or for future Studios, contact Bill Clymer.
-
Please use the ITC web site (http://www.rit.edu/~ntiditc
)
for a detailed description of the proposal
process and the Studio Proposal Form. We ask that proposals be submitted
electronically from the ITC web site. For those individuals who are
unable to access the WWW to submit their proposals, contact Bill Clymer
(ewcncp@rit.edu)
for a paper copy of the form and related information.
