Project Title: Cochlear Implant Services Website
Key Words:
Project Description:

"I am in the process of creating a web site to describe the support services for students with cochlear implants. In the Fall I used Dreamweaver software to create a prototype of the website. To date, most of content has been collected including permission from manufacturers to use their images. The website will include a description of the services available to cochlear implant users, activities of the on-campus cochlear implant network, student perspectives on college life, general information about cochlear implants and links to cochlear implant manufacturers. My goal is to create a central location for inquiries internally and externally on what services NTID has for students with cochlear implants. "

Project Title: Organizational Communication and the Deaf Employee Web Page
Key Words:
Project Description:

I have developed an initial web page to support the course Organizational Communication and the Deaf Employee. Now I would like to refine it and make it more detailed. It will be used in conjunction with a student course. I am interested in exploring ways I can use the Web to provide students with course and reference materials. I may use electronic reserve and convert PowerPoint files to HTML.

Project Title: On-line Biographies of Famous Scientists of the Industrial Revolution
Key Words:
Project Description:

I propose to place two biographies of famous scientists in an on-line file for direct access by faculty and, with permission, to students as an English reader. Ultimately, faculty will be able to [1] select biographies and print them as a reader, or [2] assign students to access them on-line. For the June studio, I would do two biographies out of the possible 131 biographies which I have prepared with illustrations, but need to be converted into electronic form. In the print version, vocabulary items will be provided on facing pages. In the on-line version, vocabulary items will be linked in-context definitions. We (NTID) also have purchased rights to approximately 100 illustrations from the Bettmann Archive for these biographies, and other illustrations will be included from my personal illustration collection of technical illustrations for which I hold title. When the archetypal group of one or two biographies are completed, I will invite selected members of the English faculty to access the on-line biographies, produce a Word (TM) file and also use the on-line reader. The English faculty will include, but not be limited to John Allen Payne who plans to use these biographies. I attended the www strand last June and successfully completed the project I planned (http://www.rit.edu/~a0mnce). I need to refresh these skills and augment then with other related skills, e.g., pop-up boxes and design of forms.

Project Title: Developmental Issues and Deaf Learners
Key Words:
Project Description:

"This graduate course is typically taught only on campus, live, in the spring. I have been requested to make it available nationally, through distance learning. In the ITC Studio, I hope to construct the web version and offer the course on-line next winter/spring. Students from around the country have asked to receive this course, but most have full-time jobs that do not permit them to come to RIT. This would make the course available to tuition-paying students as part of their academic training and/or certification requirements."

Project Title: Developing a website for student teachers
Key Words:
Project Description:

Last June I attended a week-long workshop to develop a homepage for students in the MSSE program. I had some vague ideas of how it could be used for student teachers who are doing their internships in remote locations. During this school year, I have had more experience with supervising student teachers and think that the idea of having the main focus of the website be student teacher -to-student teacher and student teacher- to-me communication is a valuable one. I would like to revise the site I started with a primary emphasis on making communication via the WWW a priority. One of our priorities in working with preservice teacher is to encourage them to work collaboratively and share experiences and expertise. Easy accessibility to their peers will encourage this to happen. Additionally, there is information that needs to be shared with students regarding what is happening here while they are at remote locations. This will give our department better (and equal) access to all students.

Project Title: Posting PowerPoint Presentations to the Web
Key Words:
Project Description:

"During the February, 1999 ITC Studio I developed a PowerPoint presentation to use in the Job Search (0806-101) and Employment Seminar (0806-201) courses for ACT students. Since that studio I have developed a second PowerPoint presentation for those courses. I would now like to build a basic Web Site for each course and move the PowerPoint materials to the sites. Posting these materials to the Web enables students who have missed class to take responsibility for getting the materials and doing the work. Having a Web site containing job interview, cover letter and phone/relay communication information also means that alumni can have easy access as they seek career or job changes."
