Academic
eligibility for Tau Beta Pi means belonging to the uppermost ranks of one's fellow
engineering students. Membership in Tau Beta Pi, however, is granted only to those
candidates who:
- Demonstrate Exemplary Character

- Demonstrate a Record of Community Service
Demonstrate High Academic Standing
- Must be in the top 10% of their 3rd year class or
- Must be in the top 12.5% of their 4th year class or
- Must be in the top 20% of their 5th year class
- Must have completed at least 50% of their coursework and
- Be in the top 20% of their class or have a letter of recommendation from
their advisors.
- Must have graduated in the top 20% of their class. This applies even if your
school did not have a chapter at the time you graduated.

joining Tau Beta Pi.
- Must have achieved eminence in engineering as determined by Headquarters.
- If you graduated from a recognized engineering college, you must have practiced
engineering for at least 10 years.
- If you graduated from a non-recognized engineering colleges or do not hold an
engineering degree, you must have practiced engineering for
at least 15 years.
- Candidates are usually recommended by members who know them.

The Tau Beta Pi name is recognized across all engineering disciplines
as a mark of success in both career and citizenship. Letters are sent to all eligible
students from our chapter every Fall and Winter quarter.
