If you are an upper-class student (second year or beyond), consider becoming part of the YearOne Peer Advisor program. Help first-year students' transition to college life, become an integral part of the RIT community, and benefit from your own student experiences. In addition, this is a great opportunity to share and build your leadership and student involvement experiences. Below are some common questions about the program and how to become involved.
YearOne Peer Advisors are current RIT students who are actively engaged in campus and academic life on campus, and understand both the excitement and the trepidation that comes with the college transition. Peer Advisors and an integral part of the course and are carefully chosen; they are successful and personable undergraduates and are highly motivated to help first-year students to:
Upper class students possessing previous leadership and campus engagement experience can apply to become a Lead Peer Advisor. Lead Peer Advisors are also responsible for organizing out-of-class experiential activities and assisting in the classroom. However, they supervise the Peer Advisors and take the lead on organizing the experiential activities for their assigned theme. Additionally, Lead Peer Advisors will be responsible for managing the use of the TheLink @ RIT and social media to further engage first-year students in the YearOne course and life at RIT.
Lead PA Responsibilities
The time commitment for Peer Advisors will be about 10 hours per week. For Lead Peer Advisors, it will be about 15 hours per week. Please keep in mind that specific hours may vary depending upon selected out-of-class activities, as well as students' needs.
