COOPERATIVE EDUCATION
(link to: RIT Office of Co-op and Career Services)

  • RIT has had a long and successful history with its cooperative education (co-op) program. Since 1912, RIT has worked closely with employers to develop a variety of opportunities that provide students with real-life work experience.
  • With co-op you alternate quarters studying on campus with quarters off campus, working at paying jobs in your field. This enables you to gain experience that will enhance both your education and your career preparation.
  • RIT knows co-op and its benefits better than most colleges and universities - we have the fourth-oldest and fifth-largest program in the nation.

Why go on Co-op?

  • RIT's co-op program gives you a competitive edge in the job market. It provides you with a distinct advantage over other graduates by giving you invaluable professional experience (which also looks good on your resume). Co-op allows you to:
  • Help finance a portion of your education.
  • Apply what you learn from classrooms, lectures and labs to real-life challenges in industry, research, business, and medical fields.
  • Help clarify your career objectives.
  • Often be hired by the firm you worked for and usually at a higher salary than new employees without previous experience.
  • Establish professional contacts in your career field.
