Billing
No semester conversion costs will be passed along to students. In his 2010 letter to the community, President Destler was very clear that students will incur no additional costs as a result of the calendar conversion. The calendar change will, however, change billing, payment, and disbursement schedules, as indicated in this section.
Tuition and Fees
The total tuition and fees for two semesters will be equivalent to the total for three quarters. Any increase in tuition during the conversion period will be the result of annual deliberation by the RIT Board of Trustees and completely unrelated to the change to semesters.
But keep in mind that tuition and fees for one semester will be more than for one quarter (16 weeks vs. 11 weeks). Students will continue to be billed per term, and Student Financial Services will offer payment options based upon the new semester billing schedule. Further information on these payment options will appear in this Guide at a later date.
Disbursement of financial aid will also shift to a semester-based schedule (detailed information about financial aid changes will appear in the Guide at a later date).

Housing
The general terms and conditions related to RIT Housing will not be affected by the semester switch. Like tuition and fees, total annual housing charges will be the same on semesters as they are on quarters, but per-semester bills will be larger than per quarter bills. As we get closer to the conversion date, this Guide and the RIT housing portal will contain the new dates for housing selection and billing, as well as the new rates.

Medical Insurance
RIT requires all students to carry medical insurance, which may be obtained through RIT or through family or personal coverage. Students purchasing RIT insurance will be billed annually upon their enrollment at RIT.
Open enrollment for the RIT plan will be in fall term; the policy will be effective from August 15 through August 15. Students who enroll at RIT beginning spring semester will be billed proportionally.
International students are automatically enrolled in the plan upon registration and will continue to be billed twice a year.
