MULTICULTURAL CENTER FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS

Established in 2000 as part of an Institute wide initiative to increase student retention and graduation, we serve all students at RIT, regardless of ethnic background, but primarily exist to retain and graduate African American, Latin American, and Native American (AALANA) students at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

In order to help RIT meet its student retention goals, three areas drive the activity of MCAS. Each area of focus exposes MCAS commitments to academic excellence, mentoring, community development, leadership, and professional success.

MCAS Summer Bridge

A four week residential program which provides incoming freshman with the academic, personal and professional skills considered necessary to achieve academic excellence and develop into valuable members of a global society. Students will earn up to eight academic credits, participate in services centered on the Asset Based Community Development framework, conduct a research project in conjunction with the Center for Student Innovation, and learn valuable academic strategies and leadership training, all the while establishing themselves as prime candidates for the MCAS Scholars Program.

MCAS Scholars Program

A high touch, intentional advising model consisting of a summer bridge program, mentoring, living learning community and curriculum and student development for RCSD Scholarship Recipients/Summer Bridge Program Participants.

MCAS Excel

Development of AALANA Success Strategies Supporting Colleges and Students.

Programming Initiatives
