The time is finally here. The long-awaited wall-raising for RIT's first sponsored home-- the RIT Habitat for Humanity Sustainable House is finally here.
Please come show your support for both RIT and Habitat for Humanity. There will be speeches from President Destler and other major participants in the project.
The event will be from 11am to about 1pm and the wall-raising and building continues thereafter! As for parking, there are not many houses in the immediate vicinity of 167 Whitney Street so parking on the street will be fine. If there is no parking there, people may also park at the Church at the corner of Whitney and Jay Street, and there is also another church lot available for our use at the corner of Whitney and Cambell Street, just a few blocks away.
As always, Please dress for the weather and work environment.
Everyone, Staff and Students alike are encouraged to participate.
RIT's Habitat for Humanity, Engineers for a Sustainable World, and President Destler are working to build the very first completely RIT funded Habitat home. This house will not only give a local Rochester family in need a place they can call their own, but also provide them with a uniquely sustainable, energy efficient home. The house design will help benefit the environment and will decrease the cost of living in the house, a very important aspect for low-income families. The Sustainable Habitat House project is completely student run with guidance provided by various RIT staff and Rochester Flower City Habitat members. We hope the design innovations pioneered by our students will be used as a model for future Habitat homes.
