Work and Career Information
At RIT, our goal is to prepare students for successful careers in a global society, and our university has a history of working with business and industry partners. For more than 175 years, RIT has worked with business and industry to develop education programs that meet their needs. Many of our graduate students participate in research programs and projects sponsored by business and industry.
In addition, our cooperative education program is one of the oldest and largest cooperative education programs in the country. With more than 3000 business and industry partners, graduate students have the opportunity to connect with potential employers, participate in research initiatives with business, industry and government support, and apply the knowledge they learn in the classroom to real world problems.
Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services
Career guidance is a priority at RIT, and the Office of Cooperative Education
and Career Services provides effective, high-quality services to assist
you as you work toward your career objectives and personal goals. The
office consists of 25 staff members who assist students in the job search
process, including co-op and permanent positions. The office coordinates
such programs as:
- Workshops on resume writing, interviewing techniques, business etiquette
- Career counseling and support
- Online job listing system
- Career fairs with over 200 employers attending
- Campus interviews
- Networking opportunities with more than 3000 employers
COOPERATIVE EDUCATION:
Many graduate programs at RIT offer optional cooperative education programs,
an excellent opportunity for students to gain full-time, paid work experience
in their field. Graduate students in some academic programs will take
time out from their study and work full time during their academic program
to work in a short-term position in business or industry. International
students who study on campus for nine consecutive months may apply for
co-op positions as part of optional practical training.
For more information, visit the Cooperative Education and Career Services website.
Graduate students often work part-time, on campus while they are completing
their degree programs. International students on a student visa can work
up to 20 hours per week, on campus. The Student Employment Office at RIT offers information
and assistance for students interested in applying for part-time on campus
jobs.
