Reliability Maintenance
Program Overview
In manufacturing, utility, and service industries, equipment reliability means bottom line profitability. Unscheduled downtime costs businesses millions of dollars each year.
The RIT reliability maintenance certificate program, offered through the Center for Multidisciplinary Studies, prepares individuals to implement a reliability-based maintenance strategy within an organization. Emphasis is placed equally on understanding the theory underlying reliability and the application of tools and software that participants can use immediately on the job. Some topics of instruction include root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, strategies for maintaining overall equipment effectiveness, and spare parts forecasting. Students learn to apply reliability techniques and use industry standard software through completing group and individual assignments.
Curriculum Review
This 26-credit certificate program includes seven courses that can be completed in five quarters of part-time study.
Concentration
These certificate courses can also be applied towards a professional concentration for the applied arts and science degree.
Admission Requirements
High school algebra or equivalent is required. Enrollment is open to anyone who meets the prerequisites. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that he or she has the proper preparation to be able to succeed in the courses. Students are responsible for notifying the department when they have completed the requirements. Successful completion of a certificate requires a grade point average of 2.0 or greater.
