Chemistry (Environmental Option)

Program Overview

This program provides a broad spectrum of chemistry (general analytical, instrumental, organic, physical, biochemistry, and advanced electives), mathematics, physics, liberal arts, and computer science. Students receive the proper background to succeed in governmental or industrial positions, or to pursue a graduate degree.

Designed for those with an environmental focus, this option in the BS chemistry program is ACS certified and requires courses in biology, microbiology, environmental chemistry, aquatic toxicology and chemistry, and atmospheric chemistry. The environmental studies concentration is recommended as part of the liberal arts upper-level electives. Environmentally related science electives are available in diverse areas such as field biology, ecology, oceanography, hydrology, environmental monitoring, geology, treatment of waste and sewage, packaging, polymer technology, and chemical research.

This program is available for full- or part-time students during both day and evening hours. The quarter system at RIT enables us to accept transfer students for entry four times during the year: September, December, March, and June.
