Program Overview

Competition demands intellectual agility combined with a well-rounded knowledge base and set of skills. That’s what the E. Philip Saunders College of Business delivers with its bachelor of science degrees with majors in accounting, finance, international business, marketing, management, management information systems, and graphic media marketing.

All E. Philip Saunders College of Business majors are available during the day on a full-time and part-time basis. The bachelor of science degree with a major in management is scheduled to allow students to complete degree requirements on a part-time basis entirely during evening hours. The “America’s Best Colleges” edition of U.S. News & World Report magazine has consistently ranked the E. Philip Saunders College of Business among the top 4% of undergraduate business schools in the nation.

Curriculum for achievement
Graduates of the E. Philip Saunders College of Business will enter a complex and rapidly changing environment. The college prepares well educated managers with a broad foundation of knowledge not only in business but also in the social sciences, humanities, and sciences.

Each program includes a foundation in liberal arts and a core of essential business courses. Integrated throughout the business core are themes such as global competitiveness, ethics, diversity, technology, and problem solving. Courses in economics, mathematics, data analysis, computer skills, and organizational behavior provide the fundamental knowledge and analytical skills necessary for the pursuit of advanced study in a major.

Experience counts
The cooperative education requirement is an integral part of the E. Philip Saunders College of Business curriculum. For the part-time student who is working full time, one or more of the cooperative education experiences may be waived by the college. Waivers are based on current or prior work experience in the student’s field of study.

Transfer credit
The E. Philip Saunders College of Business is prepared to accommodate those with some college credit or an associate degree, who will find that requirements for many lower-level fundamental courses may have been met with their previous studies. In every instance, it is the policy of the E. Philip Saunders College of Business to strive to recognize the past academic accomplishments of each student. College advisers in the Student Services Office can evaluate transfer credit by reviewing transcripts from the previous schools attended.

Curriculum Review

Advising
The E. Philip Saunders College of Business is committed to providing advising services throughout a student’s academic program. In the Student Services Office, all students are assured administrative support allowing them to deal effectively with registration, records, and scheduling. Advisers are available day or evening to discuss college programs, assess proposed transfer of previous course work, and assist with admissions procedures. The Student Services Office is open Monday through Thursday until 6:30 p.m. Friday office hours are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. To make an appointment, call 585-475-7935.

Graduation requirements
Minimum academic requirements in the E. Philip Saunders College of Business for the bachelor of science degree are:

1. A total of at least 180 earned quarter credit hours, excluding First-Year Experience;
2. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 in both the program and the principal field of study (business) courses;
3. Completion of the required number of supervised cooperative education experiences, or departmental approval of a waiver; and
4. Satisfactory completion of college writing competency requirements.

Numerous resources available
The E. Philip Saunders College of Business is housed in the Max Lowenthal Building. In addition to classrooms with computer projection capabilities, the college also has state-of-the-art computer labs that are available for instruction and student use. Business students will benefit from one of the most advanced libraries in the country in The Wallace Library, with an extensive collection of business texts, periodicals and references, and online databases.

Full accreditation
RIT is accredited by the nationally recognized Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Additionally, the E. Philip Saunders College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), a professional accrediting agency for schools of business.

Management
The management major is designed for students who wish to occupy management positions in business organizations. Careers may develop in areas as diverse as sales or production. Management students will take courses to develop their skills and knowledge of leadership and quality. Further into the program, they can choose courses in specialty areas such as entrepreneurial studies or general/corporate management.
