RIT Global

Students will learn to apply the Human Centered Design (HCD) problem solving process to a real social impact problem selected by the Haiti Outreach Pwoje Espwa (H.O.P.E.) and their Mothers Club leaders. In class during the spring semester at RIT, students will explore research, design, prototyping, dissemination, and evaluation techniques from the three phases of the Design Thinking mindset of Human Centered Design (HEAR, CREATE and DELIVER). Students will also learn about and research the cultural, historical, economic, environmental, and technical context of the problem chosen to address. In early summer, students will embark on a three-week field experience to Haiti where they will practice the three phases of HCD on a collaborative design project with community partners.

The experience will include excursions to historic and cultural sites in Northern Haiti including the Citadel and Cap Haitien market and visits to various technology companies working in Haiti.
