RIT Global

Please note that this timeline is only applicable to Global Scholars from RIT China.

Step 1:

Attend an info session at your home campus or contact your home campus advisor for more information about the program.

Step 2:

Meet with your home campus advisor to discuss the best way to fit the RIT Global Scholars Program in your Plan of Study.

Step 3:

For Spring Semester of the academic year 2018-2019: Applications will open on Monday, June 4th at 12:15AM EST, fill out your profile and application in The Compass by Friday, June 22 2018 at 11:45PM EST.

Step 4:

Your application will be submitted to your respective department at the Rochester campus. Final decissions should be communicated by mid Fall Semester.

Step 5:

You will have one week from the time you are notified of your acceptance to confirm your participation in the program.

Step 6:

Once you confirm your participation, you will have to log again into the Compass to upload the bio page of your passport and your financial documents (both in PDF format). After you upload, the International Student Services Office will proceed to issue your I-20 or DS2019. Once these documents have been issued we will e-mail you a digital copy of it so you can confirm all the information on it is correct. Expect to receive this e-mail by June 29. Once you confirm the information is correct, we will proceed to send it via FedEx to your home campus* so you can apply for the F-1 or J-1 student visa at your home US Embassy or Consulate. 

*If you need the I-20 or DS2019 FedExed to your home address, you will need to request that the student financial services department in your home campus sends an e-mail to ritglobal@rit.edu authorizing this. You will also send an e-mail to ritglobal@rit.edu with your detailed home address and a phone number to contact you for the delivery.

Step 7:

While your I-20 or DS-2019 is getting processed, you will receive communication from the Global Scholars program coordinator regarding the following:

  • How to apply for housing
  • Information on the information that you need to submit to the Student Health Center
  • Instructions regarding medical insurance
  • Instructions on how to sign up for International Student Orientation
  • Available opportunities for student employment
  • Instructions for your arrival to Rochester

 

Step 8:

You will be enrolled in classes by your academic adviser in RIT, Rochester.

Step 9:

You will notify the Global Scholars program coordinator as soon as your visa is approved. You will then send the coordinator detailed information of your arrival to Rochester. 

The Global Scholars staff will continue to assist you with any questions and concerns you may have before arrival.
