Lead Mentor, Honors Mentor and Honors Mentor - Photo Applications

Did you have a good time during orientation? Help next year's incoming students have that same great experience. Become a Mentor!

 

Honors Lead Mentor (Deadline to apply is February 16, 2018)

 

Have you been a Mentor assigned to a group two or more times and want to help lead the pre-orientation program? Consider applying to be a Lead Mentor!

 

The Lead Mentor assists in the planning and conducting of training sessions to teach mentors how to support incoming students during our pre-orientation program. They also offer input on schedules and feedback on many details that will impact students. In addition, they are assigned to a group of students to assist in activities that foster an inclusive group.  The Lead Mentors will:

  • Participate in the selection process for Mentors.
  • Attend and help facilitate an informational meeting on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 5:30-7:00 pm in Orange Hall 1360.
  • Co-facilitate a training session on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in Orange Hall.
  • Consult on the schedule and planning of events.
  • Assist with the training session on August 17, 2018.
  • Help with move-in, parent session and program welcome.
  • Participate with assigned group(s) at Camp Arrowhead.
  • Help organize Scavenger Hunt and BBQ.
  • Assist office staff and mentors as needed throughout the program.
  • Problem solve with mentors in dealing with conflicts or challenging situations.
  • Be a role model for all students; be professional in both behavior and language.
  • Be prepared and organized.
  • Establish a close relationship with our students.
  • Communicate regularly with your students throughout the weekend.
  • Encourage exploration of new ideas.
  • Embrace diversity at  RIT.
  • Support and uphold the Honors Program goals and objectives.

 

In return for your service, the Honors Program will:

  • Pay each Lead Mentor a stipend of $300.
  • Provide free housing and early move-in for those living on campus from Thursday, August 16 until normal housing contract begins.
  • Provide meals from Friday, August 17, through lunch on Tuesday, August 21.

 

 

Honors Mentor (Deadline to apply is February 23, 2018) 

An Honors Mentor assists in welcoming our incoming students to RIT and the Honors Program and plans activities to foster an inclusive group. The Honors Mentor acts as a resource to the new students. and is expected to:

  • Attend an informational meeting on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 5:30-7:00 pm in Orange Hall 1360.
  • Attend a training session on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in Orange Hall (email Kerrie Bondi about any conflicts).
  • Attend a training session on Friday, August 17.
  • On Saturday, August 18, from 9am to 9pm, assist with Honors freshmen move in and program welcome.
  • Co-facilitate group activities during the retreat at Camp Arrowhead on Sunday, August 19.
  • On Monday, August 20 and Tuesday, August 21, assist with all program events including the BBQ, RITz, Scavenger Hunt, College meeting with Advocate(s) and Program Overview.
  • Be a role model for new students; be professional in both behavior and language.
  • Be prepared and organized.
  • Establish a close relationship with our students.

  • Provide meals from Friday, August 17 through lunch on Tuesday, August 21.

 

Honors Mentor - Photo (Deadline to apply is February 23, 2018)

Honors Program Mentors with photo responsibilities are assigned to a group of students, partner with Honors Mentors to plan activities and mentor incoming students. This position also helps to capture the first moments of a student’s experience at RIT that we can then share on social media, at our homecoming and graduation events.


As a Photo Mentor you will be expected to:

  • Attend an informational meeting on Monday, February 26 from 5:30-7:00 pm in Orange Hall 1360.
  • Attend the spring training session on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in Orange Hall and take pictures as needed.
  • Attend a training session on Friday, August 17, participate and plan activities as well as take pictures.
  • On Saturday, August 18, from 9am to 9pm, assist with move-in, break out session and program welcome and take pictures when possible.
  • Participate in group activities, mentor group of students and take pictures during the retreat at Camp Arrowhead on Sunday, August 19.
  • On Monday, August 20 and Tuesday, August 21, assist with all program events including the BBQ, RITz, Scavenger Hunt, College meeting with Advocate(s) and Program Overview. Take pictures when possible.
  • Download pictures for office staff to use on Facebook and in brochures.
  • Be a role model for new students; be professional in both behavior and language.
  • Be prepared and organized.
  • Embrace diversity at RIT.
  • Support and uphold the Honors Program goals and objectives.


In return for your service, the Honors Program will:

  • Pay each new Photo Mentor a stipend of $150 and a returning Photo Mentor $225.
  • Provide free housing and early move-in for those living on campus from Thursday, August 16 until normal housing contract begins.
  • Provide meals from Friday, August 17, through lunch on Tuesday, August 21.
  • Provide a camera, if necessary.

 

Applications for Lead Mentors are due by February 16, 2018.

Applications for Honors Mentors and Honors Photo Mentors are due by February 23, 2018.
