Article by GIS faculty receives national attention

Monday, February 12, 2018

An article recently published in Joule by GIS faculty, Dr. Eric Williams, Dr. Roger Chen and GIS alum, Dr. Ashok Sekar, suggests that the spread of technologies enabling Americans to spend more time at home has a side benefit of reducing energy use, and, by extension, greenhouse gas emissions. It was found that on average, Americans spent 7.8 more days at home in 2012, compared to 2003, resulting in reducing national energy demand by 1.8 percent.  This article has been receiving much attention in the media, including in the The New York TimesThe Boston Globe and many other publications. The Times feature can be read on their website.
