RITx Request for Proposal Process

Background

Since the launch of our first offering in 2016, RIT has developed online offerings for in-demand skills such as video game design, cybersecurity, project management, soft skills, and design thinking. More than 500,000 learners have enrolled in an RITx course—this number continues to grow each day.

In preparation for our future edX offerings, RIT is opening a request for proposals for new single offerings (university-level massive open online course in any discipline) or MicroMasters programs (masters-level career-focused series of massive open online course offerings with a pathway to credit at RIT).

The development of edX offerings is a collaborative effort led by the Innovative Learning Institute (ILI). Course developers will partner with Teaching and Learning Services and RIT Online staff to design and develop the edX offering or program, and provide support during the delivery of the offering to learners. Compensation for development and delivery of edX offerings will be provided by the ILI to faculty/staff. Course releases are not applicable for edX offerings.

Eligibility

All RIT faculty or staff may propose an offering or program to appear on edX’s public platform (edx.org).

Proposal Details

The ILI has created a proposal form that includes criteria necessary to assess the viability of the proposed offering(s) and for submission to edX for approval to appear on edx.org.

Selected proposals must meet RIT’s goals to drive recruitment of students for RIT campus and online programs, improve RIT’s visibility and reputation, create additional revenue, and engage the RIT community and/or corporate partners. Only selected proposals will be notified and contacted for interviews.
