Alumni Spotlight - Berta Rivera, B.S., 2012
Berta Rivera earned a BS from CMS in 2012 with concentrations in General Business and Behavioral Science is the Director of the C.A.S.H. Coalition (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) a community coalition led by Empire Justice Center and the United Way of Greater Rochester. Her formal educa- tion includes a Bachelors of Applied Sciences from RIT.
As Director, Berta is responsible for the overall management of C.A.S.H. including: strategic planning and budgeting; fund development; volunteer training and development; Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site operations; financial literacy and asset-building initia- tives, and community outreach.
Before being promoted to C.A.S.H. Director, Berta worked with C.A.S.H. in different roles since 2009. Prior to joining C.A.S.H., she was a paralegal working in the Foreclosure Prevention pro- gram of Empire Justice Center.
Ms. Rivera has presented at National Conferences for the National Community Tax Coalition, and the Annual Conference on Financial Education. Topics covered included the recruitment, reten- tion, and management of volunteers; best practices for training and communicating with volunteers and staff; client engagement and customer service; and financial coaching. VITA volunteer coordi- nators and prospective financial coaching program coordinators from agencies across the nation are often referred to Ms. Rivera for advice, training, and technical support.
Berta will be recognized at RIT’s Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony in the Webb Auditorium on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
