Student Highlight: Ryan Gaynor
Ryan Gaynor, 4th year BS student in Applied Arts & Science, learned about CMS through the CMS website (www.rit.edu/cms). When he started at RIT, Ryan was a student of the Digital Cinema program in CIAS, the former Motion Picture Science program. Although he enjoyed a lot of the classes in that program, he was especially interested in the creative side of film & video production, with an emphasis in sound design and music production. The RIT School of Film & Animation offers many classes in film and video production, post-production, and sound, however Ryan wanted to incorporate more courses in music composition, sound design and editing..
With the hopes of breaking into the film or music industry or media arts, Ryan was looking for an alternative majors program and was able to design, through CMS, a degree where he is concentrating in film and video studies as well as music and technology. Both concentrations seem to relate closely with one another. Ryan is interested in pursuing a career in filmmaking, music/sound production or media arts and feels that his concentrations include sufficient coursework to help him achieve this goal.
Although Ryan has yet to go on co-op, he is currently taking a class online that is offered by a music production school in San Francisco, California called Pyramind. The course, Synthesis & Sound Design. It teaches the fundamentals of sound and synthesis in music production. The course is being credited as an independent study for Ryan’s Applied Arts & Science Degree.
CMS can’t wait to hear of Ryan’s success after graduation!
