Message from the Provost

Student’s writing abilities are critical to their academic and future success. RIT is committed to providing students, faculty, and staff a robust environment for the teaching and learning of writing.

RIT embraces a transformational approach to advancing the writing skills of RIT students. Our Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Program includes a writing intensive course in the first year, advanced writing intensive courses both in general education and in individual degree programs, new faculty development for teaching writing, and student support services that include a system of peer writing fellows.

The University Writing Program Office and its associated staff is a university-level resource created to support writing throughout the curriculum.  This office offers traditional writing support through the First Year Writing Program and the Writing Commons, collaborates with other related support units across the campus, and designs faculty development opportunities from the Wallace Center.

Together with the Institute Writing Committee, the faculty of the University Writing Program work collaboratively to advance new pedagogical approaches to the teaching of writing and to support the achievement of student learning outcomes in the areas of written communication.
