Haydn in the Summer

The Haydn Concert Calendar has been updated to reflect many concerts taking place throughout North America, particularly in August. Some highlights are included below. All events are hyperlinked in the description found in the concert calendar.

Summer Community Reading Orchestra at Eastman School of Music

Open to all area players of orchestral instruments (high school students and adults). This summer features popular and less famous works by Haydn and Mozart, and their contemporaries. Attention will be given to playing techniques apropos to conveying the broad dramatic language of late eighteenth-century instrumental music, and to stylistic understanding. Wind/percussion instrumentation will be different week to week, but generally requiring 1-2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, and timpani.

Happy Birthday, Joseph Haydn (and a happy 200th to the Handel & Haydn Society!)

Today we celebrate Haydn's 283rd birthday, a mere week after the Handel & Haydn Society in Boston kicked off its Bicentennial celebrations, complete with a mayorally-proclaimed "H & H Day" on March 24th. The Boston Public Library is hosting an exhibit about H & H through September 5th. You can read more about it via Teresa Neff's post over at Musicology Now.
