ROAR Day 2018: A ROARing Success!

More Than $1.9 Million Raised
From Over 2,750 Donors in One Day

Nearly $2 million was raised for RIT on ROAR Day, which took place on Tuesday, October 2. It’s the university's biggest philanthropic day of the year—alumni, students, staff, faculty and friends of the university “ROARed for more” opportunities for RIT students and an educational experience that continually stimulates their creativity and innovation.

Mike Blain, RIT Hillel Founder, Leaves Lasting Impact

Mike Blain ’57 (GAP) was one of only three in a family of 13 to survive the Holocaust. As an RIT student, he founded Hillel, the Jewish student group that’s now 64 years old.

College of Liberal Arts Alumnus Promoted to Four-star General

In August, U.S. Army Gen. Stephen R. Lyons ’83 (COLA) was named the 13th commander of the U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base (St. Clair County, Ill.). Lyons was promoted to the rank of four-star general before he was confirmed as commander. He is the first Army officer in the role.

“Whose Streets? Our Streets!” is a multimedia project that explores New York City social justice movements from 1980–2000. Tamar Carroll, associate professor of history at RIT, co-curated the project with RIT alumna Meg Handler ’90 (GAP) and Michael Kamber, a former New York Times journalist.

App Developed by Alumnus and Son Featured in Apple App Store

App MyEar, an app developed by Gerald Isobe ’76 (SCB) and his son Brandon Isobe, was recently featured in the Apple App Store's “App of the Day” listing. Brandon and Gerald, who is deaf, created the app to support communication between deaf people and hearing people.
