Gift of 177-acre estate will expand research, educational offerings in agriculture and sciences

A unique real estate gift has provided RIT a new ecosystem for future life sciences research and growth in new fields. Portions of the Tait Preserve have been marked for new agricultural research and education to develop farming practices that benefit both the land and community.

“Exclusive and protected access to the Tait Preserve’s is particularly valuable, as it will give access of the available field sites to our faculty and students to work on research projects in a number of areas,” stated Sophia Maggelakis, dean of RIT’s College of Science.

RIT partnership offers new opportunity to finish a degree

RIT has joined the Degrees When Due initiative to help people with "some college, but no degree" finish their undergraduate credential.

RIT receives funding for engineering technology scholars

The College of Engineering Technology received a grant from the National Science Foundation to fund 36 scholarships and help develop faculty programming for engineering technology education.

The top 10 cybersecurity universities came to RIT in November to face off in the Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition International Finals. RIT placed second, right after Stanford University.

William Clark named RIT Minett Professor

William Clark, former President and CEO of the Urban League of Rochester, was named the 2019-20 Frederick H. Minett Professor. The Minett Professorship brings Rochester-area multicultural professionals to campus to share their expertise with students, faculty and staff for one academic year.

Alumni leaders join RIT Alumni Association Board

With the addition of six new members to the board, the new President, Victoria Griffith notes "As our alma mater grows in national stature, the voice of alumni becomes that much more important. The RIT Alumni Association Board members represent the interests of all 135,000 RIT alumni. Our new additions to the board will provide fresh and unique perspectives to help shape the institute’s future alumni programs."

Orlando ’04 (SCB), MBA ’08 (SCB) and Denishea ’04 (SCB) Ortiz received the 2019 Young Philanthropist of the Year Award from NextGen Rochester in November of 2019.

Alexander Gartley ’07 (CIAS) and his wife, Cristin, welcomed their second son, Coda Levi Gartley, in December 2018.

In June 2019, Chazz ’94 (CIAS) and Chris ’94 (CIAS) MST '95 (CIAS) (Mino) Bjanes visited the RIT campus again after many years, to celebrate a 25 year graduation anniversary.
