ALUMNI VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: I’M FIRST

TRiO Student Support Services at RIT is now known as I’m First, an expanded program which is available to all first generation college students (a student whose parents/guardians have not completed a bachelor’s degree).

“I’m First’s mission is to foster participants academic success by encouraging potential and providing comprehensive services and advocacy in a caring and supportive environment,” said I’m First Director Bernadette Lynch.

In addition to students working with a staff member one on one to meet their needs, students have access to a network of over 240 faculty and staff who have volunteered with the program by mentoring, presenting at a First Talk (monthly Ted Talk discussion), and interacting with first generation faculty and staff and program events and activities. One of the goals of the program is to foster a campus environment which is welcoming to all first generation college students.

The I’m First program is interested and welcomes alumni involvement opportunities within the program. Opportunities to be involved include: serving as a mentor to a current first generation college student, presenting on a topic relevant to first generation college students, attending events, donating to our career clothing drive and more. Interested alumni should contact Bernadette Lynch, bdlldc@rit.edu.
