The Quest for New Antibiotics

As bacterial resistance to antibiotics is a current and emerging problem, a pipeline of new drugs is key to ensuring public health. A void in new antibiotic discovery has created a grim landscape in which pathogenic bacterial diseases threaten our health like never before. RIT researchers Dr. Andre Hudson, and Dr. Robert Osgood are on the front lines of the efforts to understand the various mechanisms of resistance in addition to the discovery and development of new antibiotics. Join them as they share longstanding bacterial challenges that impede a successful and permanent campaign against them, the progress they’ve made, and what still remains to be done.
