Destler Participates on White House Panel
President Destler joined a panel on college access and affordability led by Vice President Joseph Biden. The White House Task Force on Middle Class Families has held forums around the country focusing on raising the living standards of working families.
City School Grads Eligible for Scholarship Program
An RIT scholarship/grant program will cover full tuition for eligible graduates of the Rochester City School District admitted to the freshman class starting in fall of 2010. The scholarship will be renewable annually for full-time students in good academic standing.

Movie About NTID Grad Starts production in Rochester
A Los Angeles-based film crew is in Rochester to make a movie based on Matt Hamill, the RIT/NTID championship wrestler who has gained fame in mixed martial arts. A cast of 20 and production crew of 30 are expected to film the movie entirely in the Rochester area.
Hundreds Shine Their Lights in D.C. for 25th Big Shot
Families, friends and strangers united on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to make the 25th Big Shot photograph. The Smithsonianís National Museum of the American Indian is the subject of the nighttime image. Despite rainy conditions, the event drew more than 800 volunteers.

Welcome Center Opens — Friday, October 9
Pre-registration for Brick City Homecoming (October 9-11) is now closed. You may register for events on campus during the Welcome Center hours in the Eastman Building throughout the weekend. Tickets for Horton Speaker Jimmy Wales, Comedian Jim Gaffigan, or homecoming hockey game tickets may be purchased at the Gordon Field House Box Office.
Brick City Homecoming's Coolest Event — Saturday, October 10
Come cheer on the Tigers as they take on Colgate at the Blue Cross Arena. Special alumni ticket price is $6 available online through October 5! First 5,000 fans through the door receive a FREE RIT Hockey t-shirt! After October 5, tickets may be purchased at the Gordon Field House for $6 or on game day at the Arena for $10.

Wedding Bells
Erica Binotto '06 (CIAS) and Travis Thomas '09 (CAST, GCCIS) were married on October 12, 2008, at the Castle on the Hudson in Tarrytown, NY. Following the wedding the couple honeymooned in Maui. They currently reside in King of Prussia, PA. Travis works as a systems engineer for Lockheed Martin. Erica works as a medical illustrator for Certified Medical Illustrations. (Correction notice: Last month's issue had the correct photo with an incorrect description.)

New Beginnings
John Peelle (1971) moved to Phoenix in 1976 and opened his own photo studio in the Scottsdale Air Park. His clients have included almost all the major advertising agencies, many design studios and many coporate clients including; Forever Living Products, Best Western International, Pointe Resorts, and LG HI-MACS just to name a few.

Inspiring Others
Rehema Trimiew continues her work of empowering young women through documentary classes, which teaches girls to speak out about their lives and to share their experiences in films. She follows this process in her upcoming film Inspirations of Life. Trimiew, will travel to Zambia to follow 10 teenage girls in hopes of getting them to share their voice.

Interested in speaking with prospective students to spread the word about RIT? We are looking for support from Alumni Admissions Volunteers to represent RIT at events nationally.
Admissions Application Fee Waiver
You can give a college-bound student of your choice a fee-waived application for undergraduate admission. By encouraging a student to apply, you can share your RIT experiences with a prospective student, while helping to defray the cost of applying to the university.
Hometown Information Session & Reception
Keep checking the admissions volunteer website as students and their families may be in your local area attending a Student Information Session & Reception. Alumni volunteers are needed for check-in and to share a graduate's perspective.
