Named in Honor of Alumnus

Introducing the Joseph M. Lobozzo Alumni House

RIT’s first alumni-centered campus facility will bear the name of Joe M. Lobozzo MBA ’95. Joe is a member of the President’s Roundtable and has served on the RIT Board of Trustees (1999–2013). He earned the Saunders College of Business Distinguished Alumni Award in 2001, the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award in 2003, the RIT Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2006 and was the recipient of the 2017 NRS Award.

Brad Tuckman ’95

“It’s funny, because I always used to say—or I still say—that there was never really that ‘aha’ moment. I always remember the difficulties.”

While in Fort Lauderdale, President Munson sat down with Brad Tuckman ’95. Brad is the chief brand officer of Scales Gear, a manufacturer of fishing apparel. He is also a board member and founder of CreativeDrive, a technology-enabled content creation company with over 1,000 full-time creators and 100 studios globally. Brad’s entrepreneurial journey began in 1997, when he founded his first agency, Studio FX, which he then merged into a new venture, OneKreate, in 2001. Since then, he has worked with top brands, including: Rubbermaid, Walmart, Hilton Hotels and Kate Spade.

Eric Kuckhoff ’84
MS Chemistry, COS

“You know, the idea of owning large tankfuls of federally regulated, highly hazardous chemicals, wasn't something that I just woke up one day saying, ‘Boy, I have to have that.’”

President Munson met with Eric Kuckhoff MS ’84, an important member of the RIT family who served as president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and currently serves as a member of the RIT Board of Trustees. Eric is also a chemist and entrepreneur, having grown his own chemical company, Polystar LLC, into a $50 million business in just 10 years. He is now vice president and general manager of North America at Cargill Inc.

Celebrating 50 Years
at the Henrietta Campus

Fifty years ago, RIT moved from its original downtown Rochester campus to its current and much larger home in Henrietta, N.Y. The university will celebrate this momentous anniversary with yearlong activities from July 2018 to June 2019. Events will include special ceremonies and more during Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend, October 19-21, 2018.

Alumnus Inducted into National Inventors Hall of Fame

Steven Van Slyke ’88 (COS) has been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame for co-inventing the organic light-emitting diode, or OLED. Van Slyke partnered with chemist Ching Tang on the invention while working at Eastman Kodak Co.

Two RIT Kosovo Alumnae Named to Forbes “30 Under 30” List for Open Data Kosovo

Two RIT Kosovo alumnae are featured in a prestigious 2018 Forbes “30 Under 30” list in the field of European law and policy. Blinera Meta ’13 and Dafina Olluri ’13 were recognized for their use of technology to improve government transparency and accountability with the nonprofit organization Open Data Kosovo.

In 2014, RIT’s College of Engineering (KGCOE) and College of Liberal Arts (COLA) partnered with the Teagle Foundation to launch the university's Grand Challenges Scholars Program (GCSP). It is part of a wider initiative endorsed by the National Academy of Engineering to prepare the next generation of students for addressing the grand challenges facing society this century.

RIT Students Crowdfunded
to Compete at National
Rocket Competition

The RIT Launch Initiative is a student organization that applies the principles of rocket design and manufacturing for research and competition. Using the Crowdfunding at RIT program, they raised funds to build a Custom Hybrid Engine Rocket to compete in the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition reaching heights up to 30,000 feet.
