Multifunctional 3D Printing Symposium Workshops

A series of optional half-day workshops will be held in advance of the Multifunctional 3D Printing Symposium. Seating is limited, so be sure to register early. On site parking is available at RIT. A shuttle bus will be available to transport attendees from the Hyatt hotel to/from the workshop location at Rochester Institute of Technology. Please refer to the Agenda for details.

Wednesday, June 12th (RIT and Hyatt Regency Hotel)

9:00 AM – 12:00 PMWorkshop 1: Generative Design With Autodesk Fusion 360
Attendees in this workshop will be introduced to generative design using Autodesk Fusion 360. Generative design mimics nature’s evolutionary approach to design. Designers or engineers input design goals into generative design software, along with parameters such as materials, manufacturing methods, and cost constraints. The software explores all the possible permutations of a solution, quickly generating design alternatives. It tests and learns from each iteration what works and what doesn’t.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PMWorkshop 2: Inkjet Material Deposition
Inkjet printing is a highly versatile process that allows digital deposition of multiple materials to produce complex multifunctional devices. Attendees in this workshop will learn the fundamentals of formulating nanoparticle inks for inkjet printing, preparing substrates for compatibility with inks, and setting up inkjet process parameters in order to generate high quality printed patterns.

11:30 AMShuttle departs from Hyatt Regency Hotel to bring attendees to RIT for workshops

12:00 PM – 1:00 PMLunch for workshop attendees (provided)

1:00 PMShuttle departs from RIT to bring morning workshop attendees to Hyatt Regency Hotel

1:00 PM – 4:00 PMWorkshop 3: Circuit Design With Autodesk EAGLE
Attendees in this workshop will be introduced to electrical circuit design using Autodesk’s EAGLE software. Autodesk EAGLE is an electronic design automation (EDA) software that enables printed circuit board (PCB) designers to seamlessly connect schematic diagrams, component placement, PCB routing, and comprehensive library content.

1:00 PM – 4:00 PMWorkshop 4: Flexography and Gravure Printing
Flexography and gravure printing are high throughput printing processes using a physical master (printing plate or cylinder). Attendees in this workshop will learn the fundamentals of these processes, including pattern generation, ink/paste formulation, substrate preparation, process settings, and troubleshooting.
