October 10, 2018 marks World Mental Health Day. Tomorrow is a day for global mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against the social stigma surrounding mental health. Our team at Behind the Bricks wanted to ensure that all members of the Rochester Institute of Technology community are aware of the resources here on campus.
Counseling and Psychological Services
RIT Counseling and Psychological Services is a confidential resource on campus for RIT students. Located on the second floor of the August Center building (across from the Student Life Center), this Student Affairs department offers free, confidential, and personalized services to the RIT community. Wanting students to have all of the resources they need to succeed, Counseling and Psychological Services take appointments, and also have group counseling sessions. Services also covered include; psychiatry, psychotherapy, outreach, workshops, referrals, and much more. Don’t hesitate to reach out! Check out their website for more information.
Center for Women and Gender
RIT’s Center for Women and Gender (CWAG) is another confidential resource on campus open to all RIT students. Located in the Campus Center between the Fireside Lounge (SAU) and the Student Government office, this center offers a wide range of services. They are committed to promoting a campus community that is safe, equitable, and respectful of all members. Learn more about the center and the advocates that can support you here.
As employees of the university, resident advisors can offer private, but not confidential support to students living on campus. Although they are not a confidential resource here at RIT, talking with your RA is a great first step. Not only are RAs on campus heavily trained on the multiple resources on campus, but they are carefully selected individuals who want to lend a helping hand. The Center for Residence life is committed to engaging, inclusive and safe living-learning environments. If you are not comfortable talking directly with your RA, they will guide you in the direction of the best resource for you.
Spirituality and Religious Life
Located in the Campus Center, Spirituality and Religious Life’s mission is to cultivate engaged and vibrant religious, secular, and spiritual communities on campus that explore deep questions of purpose, meaning, and value. Regardless if you practice a religion or not, there are plenty of on and off campus communities to get involved in through RIT’s Spirituality and Religious Life. Events are often held in the Interfaith Center on campus, and are definitely worth checking out! Find out more information on their website.
