When it’s time to decide if you want to live on campus or off campus, we understand that it can sometimes be a difficult decision. Our team at Behind the Bricks is here to share all of the benefits of choosing to live in RIT Housing during your time away at school.
Being on campus
While this one may seem obvious, living on campus makes your overall college experience much simpler. You have quicker access to amenities that individuals living off campus do not. You are able to stop back at your place during short breaks between classes, and much more!
Select your own roommates
Many believe that if you choose to live in RIT Housing, you have no control over who your roommates are. This is not true! Housing allows for you to pick your own roommates. Also, if a roommate moves out, Housing will find someone to fill their space in the apartment if you do not.
No subletting necessary
RIT Housing contracts are nine months long and span the entirety of the academic year. The majority of off campus leases last a full year, and you are responsible to sublet your space or break the lease if you are home for summer. With RIT Housing, this isn’t something that you have to worry about!
Can end housing contracts with no fee if studying abroad or going on co-op
This is one of the biggest perks of living in RIT Housing. Rather than breaking a lease or subletting your room, if you find out you are going away on study abroad or co-op, RIT Housing will end your contract with no fee. This is a major perk, as plenty of RIT students find out they are offered co-op positions last minute!
All utilities are included in rent
Another major perk of RIT Housing, you do not have to worry about additional utility costs or limits on utilities or data usage. Everything is covered in your set rate. The majority of local developers have a set cap on data usage, and if the limit is surpassed, you may be charged.
High speed internet and Tiger TV
RIT Housing uses the same WIFI network that the academic and dorm side of campus offer students. Tiger TV is provided through Philo, and is available with all housing options. Being completely internet based, Tiger TV allows you to watch television on nearly everything you have that has internet access capabilities.
Free shuttle service
Our university offers students free shuttle services from their RIT Housing to various parts of campus. The shuttle operates 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. during the weekend. For more information including shuttles to off-campus locations, please visit https://www.rit.edu/fa/parking/transportation/shuttle.
