Guide to Packing for Winter Break

There’s only one more week of classes left and before you know it you’ll be done with finals and heading home for a much needed break. Before you can hit the road, you’ve got to pack up. But how do you know what you’ll need? Behind the Bricks has got you covered. Here’s some tips that’ll make packing a breeze.

You Don’t Need Everything
As long as you’ll be returning to the same dorm or apartment for the spring semester, there’s no need to pack up everything you own. Just bring the basics. Bring a few outfits you love, lots of comfortable clothes to relax in, any specific hygiene products you use regularly, your computer, and anything else you’ll want to keep you entertained.

Invest in totes
If you didn’t buy these to move in at the beginning of the semester, head over to Wal-Mart or Target to grab them now. Filling up one or two plastic totes is way easier to travel with/carry around than trying to cram everything into 10 different bags you find around your apartment.

Start early
Don’t put it off until the last minute. The last thing you’re going to want to do after you complete your last final and are ready to head home is start packing. Start cleaning up your apartment, collecting totes or suitcases, and organizing your things based on what you do and don’t want as soon as possible.

Think Ahead
As it gets closer to your final days on campus for the semester, start planning ahead. Be conservative when grocery shopping and don’t buy anything perishable that you’re not going to use up.

Remember to Leave Room
Don’t forget that one of the reasons you’re going home is for Christmas. You’ll most likely be bringing more back to campus than you’re bringing home. Don’t overload your totes or suitcases on the way home because you’ll most likely end up not being able to bring it all back with you.
