We’ve all heard of Black Friday, but maybe you’re not as familiar with Small Business Saturday. The initiative began in 2010 as a way to encourage shopper to support small brick and mortar local stores in the frenzy of big box retail and ecommerce shopping that occurs with Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Here in Rochester, we are privileged to have a plethora of small businesses for you to explore and support, and to make it all the easier, we’ve compiled a list of just a few of the places you can #ShopSmall this weekend!

CURATED

CURATED is a one day independent market, curated by Shop Peppermint, held in the Culver Road Armory. This year, the market will be featuring 40 local artists and will be open 10am to 4pm making it ridiculously easy to support Rochester artists and artisans. It’s also a wonderful place to start your Christmas shopping as you’re sure to find something for everyone of your list – from Genesee Brew prints, to handmade candles, to intricate jewelry.

Historic Downtown Canandaigua

If you’re willing to make the ~35 minute drive out to historic Downtown Canandaigua, you won’t be disappointed. The town does Small Business Saturday in a big way. Whether you’re on the hunt some antiques, looking to rifle through some boutiques, or simply wanting to indulge in some delicious crepes, this is a wonderful place to go and explore in the midst the hustle of the holiday season.

Rochester Public Market

Okay so we admit, the Public Market isn’t just a Small Business Saturday thing, but maybe that’s even better? The market is open every T/Th/Sat of the year and it’s the place to stock up on fragrant, freshly baked bread, delicious empanadas, and local produce. If you haven’t managed to make it out there yet, have this weekend be your motivation to go and #ShopSmall and pick up some delicious food for your pantry!
