As a Mechanical Engineering Technology student with CAST, I had the pleasure of learning and working alongside a pragmatically oriented faculty, intent on teaching students the fundamental principles and methodologies essential for success in any industry. Prospective engineering technologists would be hard pressed to find another curriculum designed to teach the fundamentals, and provide students with research, co-op, and venture creation opportunities to further advance and specialize on those topics of which interest them the most. The numerous research opportunities with professors will provide a plethora of potential avenues for students interested in pushing the envelope. The co-op office provides students with career building tools essential for those students looking to jump start their career. While the multidisciplinary nature of CAST in close proximity to the Simone Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Saunders College of Business, gives direction and mentorship to those with an entrepreneur spirit. Subsequent to graduating in the Spring of 2014, I will be dedicated to my start-up venture: CedarCreek P&T. Our company was the product of an independent study further investigated by an entrepreneur co-op at RIT’s Venture Creation. I hope prospective students can understand that opportunities such as mine were only made possible by the intangibles-- the inspiration and energy absorbed by one immersed in RIT’s exceptional collaborative spirit.
