Summer Math Applications in Science with Hands-On (SMASH) Experience for Girls

Join us at RIT for five days of fun with math and science!

The Summer Math Applications in Science with Hands-On Experience for Girls, or SMASH, is a week-long summer camp for rising eighth graders, with an emphasis on encouraging girls to explore science and math. SMASH introduces campers to the many ways math and science are used in the real world. Through hands-on activities, campers increase their skills and self-efficacy in STEM disciplines.

At SMASH, you can expect:

  • Hands-on science and math activities to learn skills used in real world jobs
  • Connect what you learn in your math classes to science used in college
  • Try a new recreational activity on RIT’s campus each day
  • Build confidence in your abilities
  • Make new friends and have fun!

Testimonials

“My daughter attended SMASH camp. She loved it and from a parent perspective I think my daughter’s interaction with the college students that assisted with camp was invaluable to her. The camp itself was great but it was all the little things that the camp provided that she responded to the most. Lunch was another big deal and, again, invaluable! Thanks for a job well done!” -SMASH Parent

“An amazing week that my daughter still talks about. She absolutely loved it.” -SMASH Parent

“Overall experience at camp was productive and rewarding. Each day we finished camp, we had many so many cool things to tell our parents about.” -SMASH Participant

“I loved all the activities I did with my new friends and I love my counselors.” -SMASH Participant
